Find DW Foundation

When I started DreamWorld, I thought I knew so much about foundations, and how to pick out undertones…but I soon found out that I knew nothing and had so much to learn! Today I am much better at picking colors then I used to be, but to honest, some have a knack that is unbelievable, while others…it takes lots of time to learn! But…with everything, practice helps to make it better.

So let’s see if we can help everyone understand how to find their perfect color.  Many women ask 2 major questions, how do I know it’s my perfect color, and how do I find that perfect color?

Those 2 questions are truly at the base of everything you do with foundations.

The first is the easiest. How do I know it’s my perfect color?

If a foundation melts into your skin, so it looks like your normal skin but only better, you have found your perfect match. And while answering this question is the easiest, actually accomplishing it, isn’t as easy. Each company has their own way of making foundations, their own way of creating the color and the finish. And I can tell you, as there are 1000’s of women with different skin tones and undertones, there are those same many ways of creating foundations; colors and finishes.

Which leads us to the next topic. How do you tell your perfect color?

Again, there are multiple ways of doing this. It used to be that women would look at their veins and if blue they were cool and green, warm. But today that is considered so obsolete.  Another way is the jewelry you wear and this way is a nice way of doing it. If you can wear gold and it looks fantastic on you, while silver looks horrible, you are warm, if you wear silver and not gold, you care cool and if you can wear both equally well, you are neutral.  This way seems to work quite well…and may women do use this to help them find the foundation that works for them. A picture is a great help. But in order to really tell from a picture, you need to be without any makeup what so ever and in direct sunlight so that the undertones show through.

Which of course leads us to the next topic. How do I tell my undertones?

Undertones is a very controversial topic for many reasons. One, each person has their own way of looking at a color and describing it. So you can actually have 2 formulators who look at the same color and call it something different, which does create more then one issue. The problem is that neither formulator is wrong, they just look at it differently. I can only comment on the way that I formulate, which is to create the overall color, then the undertone. This is the same way I figure out your skin tone when looking at a picture. Plus, even with a picture it’s not a 100% positive I will get it right, so I am careful to tell you to try multiple ideas.

So let’s go into the idea of undertones. The overall color of your skin, is your skin tone. But on further looking, you will see something in the background that makes your skin it’s color, which are your undertones. But please try not to confuse that with overtones. There are many out there who say they have a pink skin tone, but they really don’t. What they are seeing are their overtones, and having a flushed face, creates those. So, you need to go deeper for the true skintone. I usually tell ladies look at a part of your body you do NOT suntan. Tans will change the overtone of your skin along with the color and that can mess up the whole thing, but many are using sun screen, so they need the true color of their skin. One lady I helped looked at her stomach and realized that it was quite yellow, but… also saw peach. She ordered Tethys, tried it and fell it love, since it was truly perfect for her. Some say to put it on your chest, but to be honest, that changes color is many times it’s exposed to the sun, so I don’t usually suggest that.

So what undertones can you see? Well, it all truly depends…My own skin tones are really strange. I have a lot of Irish ancestry, plus some Scandinavian, and for that reason, they are really mixed up, but then so many are today living in our melting pot…So in my skin, it is very light, to the point of someone being a light red head, with peach and pink undertones, but at the same time, some neutral regular tone….so I ended up creating a foundation called Astrild. This has all these parts to it, and it was complete accident that I found my perfect foundation. I can honestly say that in all the years I have worn foundation, since I was 13, and am now 50, I have never found the perfect fit until now.

So, look at your stomach, the inside of your upper arms, a place that has no tan, and see what you see. First look at the total color: Is is light, medium dark? Or is it really pale? Do you see yellow, neutral or beige? Does it look warmwith peach, yellow? Does it look cool, like there is some blue in there? And don’t assume that because of Nationality you can get it right…my daughter has a friend who is 1/4  Native American. I assumed that she was a warm neutral. Wow, I couldn’t have been farther off. First we tried warm neutral. It was okay, but just wasn’t “right”, so then went to cool neutral, and wow, it was PERFECT!! The difference in the look was amazing.

Once you get the overall color down, then look for undertones…which really does enhance your overall color. Say you are a neutral, is it cool or warm? This is where the jewelry can help…Do you have multiple undertones. Even ladies with olive undertones can be warm or cool. They can have cool, which are green and you will find in Theia, or warm, which are yellow, which you will find in Hestia. And the other thing to remember also, is this..if you see peach with your neutral, you are warm, but you will want Maeve. If you see yellow, you again are warm, but want Hecate. But if you see a pinkish color, you then have to decide if it’s warm or cool…does it lean to the peach side or opposite that, if it leans toward peach, then you are a warm pink, or peachy pink, if it’s not warm, then of course you are cool and will want a cool pink such as Morrigan.

I will not lie and say undertones are easy, but following the steps through will help greatly with finding out what you are specifically.
